Tired of the same ole ground meat recipes for your weekly meals? Or looking to add a little spice to your dinner rotation? Then you’re in the right place. This Ground Bison Stuffed Poblano Pepper recipe is one that is filling and has a little kick to it. You might even find it to be very similar to the traditional stuffed peppers but way quicker to cook!
Technically, you can use any type of ground meat but the bison flavor, with the spicy kick from the pepper, topped with melted mozzarella..can you say yum? It really is the perfect match. But I get the hesitation.
So let’s go over some of the FAQs around this recipe, especially the bison:
Why use ground bison?
I love ground bison for many reasons but here’s a couple that stick out. It is a very lean source of protein as opposed to ground beef and can be used effectively if you’re counting macros. Additionally, bison are usually grass fed and you can ensure the quality of the meat moreover other types.
Where can I find ground bison?
In the ground beef section of your local grocery store. You’ll usually see it alongside ground lamb, ground beef, and other types of bison cuts (sirloin, patties, etc.)
What does ground bison taste like?
This one is hard to explain but I do not find it to be much different from ground beef. If you’ve ever had venison it is definitely NOT as “gamey” as that but has almost a sweeter taste than beef.
Why poblano peppers?
Poblano peppers are mildly spicy according to pepperscale.com. On the scale, it is actually less spicy than a jalapeño. Just enough kick to give this recipe some flavor!
Can I use other peppers?
Of course you can however, it may not yield the same flavor and the bigger the pepper (like bell peppers), the longer it will take to cook.
Can I use other ingredients and shredded cheese?
Yes, you can use any ingredients you’d like to use, especially in the meat mixture. The shredded mozzarella topping is a mild flavor cheese which offsets the flavor from the bison and peppers.
If this isn’t already known about a lot of the recipes I choose to feature, let me make it clear.
I LOVE recipes that can utilize different types of ingredients based on personal preference. Want a little more garlic? Great! Hate onions and want to add peppers? Perfect. Want to get rid of the corn all together? Who cares, do it.
That’s what I love about easy and versatile recipes. You make it how you want to and in a way that you and your family will enjoy!
This Ground Bison Stuffed Poblano Peppers recipe is even tasty when reheated. You know what that means? A perfect meal prep lunch to take with you to the office or on the go. (you could eat it cold but I do recommend heating it up.)
