Most of us have a time in our lives where we remember finding out Santa wasn’t real. A shift of perspective from “Well, if he didn’t leave the presents, who did?” Then, the devastation sets in when you find out it was mom and dad all along. Eventually, you get over it and you realize how strategic and tactful they must have been to keep up this hoax for so long and yet being attuned to the latest gift you’ve been obsessing over. (Meanwhile, mom has been buying her own self care gifts for 20 years.)
Then, adulthood kicks in and it’s not just Santa that stops buying gifts, everyone else does too. Maybe you have a spouse/significant other/best friend that gets you something you’ve been eying every once in a while. Or maybe you ARE the family that gifting has actually multiplied over the years and includes 37 cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Whichever situation you find yourself in, gift giving can ebb and flow and sometimes we find ourselves like mom. Empty stockings…unless of course we fill it ourselves.
So if you find yourself with an empty stocking, you need to read this post. If you have a person who buys for you and needs ideas, you need to read this post. If you have Great Aunt Linda twice removed on your Secret Santa ticket this year, you need to read this post on self care gifts.
With all the things on our holiday list this year, let’s not forget to take time for ourselves too!
I’m about to show you some items across a bunch of categories but they all fall under one overarching theme: self-care gifts. Health and fitness is so important, hello that is this entire blog. But we often don’t want to spend the money or invest in tools for ourselves. It doesn’t seem necessary, although it most definitely is. I’ve even added “experiences” at the bottom if you are someone who doesn’t care for physical items.
So here’s your reminder. That prioritizing you and the things you enjoy is non-negotiable.
And hey, Great Aunt Linda can still have that foot massager she said she so desperately needed, but you deserve to window shop too.
So let this list inspire you to make an ask for yourself. Or just buy the dang self care gift yourself and put it under the tree, acting all surprised again this year.
Here they are!
